Grand plans for a street party to mark VE day in Kilwinning have been cancelled – with organisers hopeful things will be back to normal for Picnic in the Park.
Kilwinning had planned a big street party on Friday, May 8 following the announcement that it had become a holiday. But the event was sadly scrapped after the coronavirus lockdown.
Kilwinning Community Events say no decision has been made on Picnic in the Park but that all arrangements are on hold until organisers have an understanding of timescales in the current crisis, with all fundraising is also suspended.”
Cllr Donald Reid of Kilwinning Community Events said: “As everyone will know, any plans for a holiday on this date are now long gone and all key workers will still be out in force until this virus is long gone.
“At this point no one knows when we will party again but with hope and self isolation now we hopefully can be clear by August to allow Picnic in the Park to go ahead in some form. If we can we will expand it and let everyone enjoy unrestricted time outside as cheaply as Kilwinning Community Events can make it.”
