AN AYR kids party crew who bring popular characters to life have offered to send a free video message to any child who has a birthday during the coronavirus lockdown.

CharactAyr Parties have vowed to help make birthdays special, despite social distancing measures meaning youngsters won’t be able to party with their pals.

Since they introduced the idea, they have sent more than 250 videos out to youngsters from Ayrshire and elsewhere in the UK.

Mum of two Heather Watters, 34, has been running the business for the past three years, but they were hoping to push on with more parties this year.

Her work partner, actress Catriona, 22, who she met through working at Fib Youth Theatre performs the Disney princess characters, such as Elsa from the hit film Frozen.

But Heather had to look closer to home for Batman and other male lead roles, so her husband Colin, 37 stepped in become the caped crusader as well as Ben 10 characters.

Heather told the Advertiser: “Having a birthday on lockdown won’t be easy, it’s a shame they can’t have a party or see their friends.

“I had a few costumes in the house, so I thought I could get my husband to play the parts. We’ve been filming it in the garden.

“We both have acting degrees, we met at college.

“There’s been no problem acting out the characters. He can do all the different voices, Paw Patrol characters are just dancing around.

“We are doing this for free. All we ask is that people like and share our page.”

As well as entertaining kids at home, CharactAyr have been cheering up youngsters celebrating their 18th who are stuck at home, and 21st birthdays.

Heather said: “We had an 18-year-old last week, and we decided to play up the fact he can’t get out for a drink, so we had Batman sitting sipping a beer. We had a 21-year-old girl who fancies Spiderman so we did that too.”
