An Irvine man has now walked 23 miles round his garden in a kilt for NHS Charities Together after Covid-19 postponed his Kiltwalk plans.

Colin Nisbet, a retail worker from Irvine, was due to take part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk 2020 this month.

After it was postponed due to coronavirus, Colin decided to walk 23 miles round his back garden – and stream it live on Facebook for all to watch and donate.

Colin set up a justgiving page for the cause last week and has now surpassed his £1,000 target, raising a fantastic £1,400 at time of writing.

Colin said: “It’s something different so I thought, why not? We have decent weather at the moment and I like walking. The furthest I’ve walked is to Ayr and back and I could’ve kept going. I think 23 miles will be easy! “With everything going on at the moment, the NHS need our support. We need to help them so they can help us whenever we need it.”

The patriotic Irvine man donned a kilt while doing the walk, but the undertaking was more 23 miles than 500 miles, with Colin even pushing through a broken toe to raise the funds.

He revealed: “I broke my toe around two weeks ago and it’s still not fully healed but it’s not going to stop me.

“I work in retail so I’m on my feet 24/7, it doesn’t bother me whatsoever. I’ve done my homework and seen how far I could push myself.

“My friends and family will be cheering me on through Facebook and my wife will be keeping an eye on with me with supplies of food and chocolate.”

Colin said after completing the walk, he will “relax with a well-earned beer”.

You can still donate to the justgiving page here.
