There have been more attempts to force entrance into the former Ruby Tuesdays pub –with a hole ripped into metal boards securing the building.

The Rivergate building has lay derelict for more than a decade with frequent attempts by youngsters to break in.

Police previously revealed ASBOs [Anti Social Behaviour Orders] had been issued against many youngsters hanging around the Rivergate.

But they found that ‘they moved slightly’, with one 49-year-old man suffering a serious assault below the pub earlier in the year.

Community councillors have frequently raised the alarm on the former pub.

Member Jackie Frew previously warned: “It’s going to end up the same as that building that went on fire in Bank Street.

“If anything really untoward happens, there is a responsibility lying with somebody.

“It’s wasting public funds with police being called out.”

While police say the recent damage hasn’t been reported, officers are working with partners on long term solutions.

PC Colin Johnson said: “In response to concerns raised regarding damage and criminality in and around the former Forum, Ruby Tuesdays and the loading bays beneath the Rivergate, police have been working with partners including North Ayrshire Council, Scottish Fire and Rescue and private landlords to implement measures to reduce opportunities for anti-social behaviour and criminality.

“These measures have included additional patrols, enhanced security measures, additional CCTV and removal of waste. All the agencies and companies involved are dedicated to working together to identify and implement long term solutions.”
