Local amusement businesses are set to donate meals to help keep food on the tables of those most in need during the crisis.

Stewart Graham, owner of Nonsuch Lounge and Sports Bar in Saltcoats and Seagate Leisure Centre in Irvine made the generous offer to help out last week.

In addition to the fresh food he has already donated, he will also be giving frozen meals from each business to North Ayrshire’s Community Hubs, where they will be distributed to local residents.

Speaking about the donation, Stewart said: “When we pulled the shutters down at the businesses, we donated all our fresh food and put our prepared meals into our freezers.

“However, as we are yet to know when we will be able to reopen, we felt that it was better that these meals go to good use rather than potentially being wasted.

“We are delighted that the Community Hubs will be dishing out our meals to residents and families in the local area – many of whom are valued customers of ours.

“As a leisure and amusements business, we are all about putting a smile of people’s faces and we hope that this donation helps to do exactly during these difficult times.”

The food is set to be distributed across Irvine and the Three Towns through the community food packs. As the food is frozen, Environmental Health Officers will be on hand to ensure it is stored and distributed in accordance with food safety standards.

Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “We are extremely grateful to Stewart for his generous donation. His businesses are in two of the communities which are really under pressure at the moment, so this will go a long way to helping out.”
