A man has been reported after a pensioner was knocked down during an altercation in Aldi.

The 64-year-old was reported to the Procurator Fiscal after he was traced by officers in connection with the incident in the East Road store on Friday, May 8.

The Times understands that a man in his eighties was in the queue before he was tapped on the shoulder by another shopper - despite current COVID-19 social distancing rules.

One eyewitness said a trolley was then rammed directly into the elderly man before he then fell to the ground.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police can confirm a 64-year-old man is being reported to the Procurator Fiscal after an altercation at Aldi in Irvine."
