A SKIPPER has been reported for breaching lockdown restrictions after his boat was wrecked on Irvine beach.

The 56-year-old had to be rescued by the coastguard earlier this month, when the vessel hit the rocks at Irvine beach.

Police Scotland confirmed the skipper has since been reported for an offence under the current COVID-19 legislation after the rescue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At about 10pm on Thursday, May 7, police received reports from HM Coastguard regarding a small vessel that had run aground on the rocks at the entrance to Irvine harbour.

“Police assisted HM Coastguard colleagues and the 56-year-old skipper of the boat was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for an offensive under the Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) Regs 2020.”
