THE Knockengorroch Music Festival is going virtual this weekend by hosting its annual world music festival online from May 21-24.

Festival organisers say “the Knockengorroch spirit will not be dampened” in light of the coronavirus pandemic as they encourage music-lovers to take part in this year’s virtual festival and share memories, photos and videos of Knockengorroch festivals gone by.

Virtually Knockengorroch will be livestreamed on Saturday, May 23 on Facebook with workshops, live performances and sets from artists and DJs who would have been playing at the festival this year.

Artists include Mungos Hi Fi, Samedia Shebeen and Samson Sounds.

Festyival organiser Liz Holmes said: ‘As our original May dates draw close, we are really missing the event, like all of those who were planning to attend.

“There’s a whole community comes together at Knockengorroch and hosting the event online was a way to bring that community together.

“We have some brilliant acts joining us however we have designed the event so it’s not just a presentational ‘live stream’ but also offers an opportunity for audiences to chat with each other and artists in break out rooms.

“We’re also offering workshops in pond dipping, Highland dance, and more throughout the day.

“It will be a great chance for anyone who has never experienced Knockengorroch to experience a flavour and enjoy some great

music.”

The festival’s theme this year is ‘Celestial Beings’ with attendees in with the chance of winning prizes for the best outfit.

Knockengorrach has also set up a justgiving page for those who wish to support the virtual festival.

Many artists have lost the majority of their income due to COVID-19 so proceeds will be split between the artists who are taking part in the livestream.

Organisers only ask locals to donate if they are able to.
