A man was shot dead in his home in Ardrossan with police conducting searches across the area to trace the killer.

A 42-year-old man was gunned down in a home in Nithsdale Road today [Sunday] after a man burst into the property with a firearm before making their escape.

The victim was found at the scene having suffered serious injuries, with police confirming he passed away a short time later.

A 46-year-old woman was also present during incident, who is not understood to been injured, with police currently conducting searches across the area to trace the gunman.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 4.50pm on Sunday, May 24, a 42-year-old man and 46-year-old woman were within a house in Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan when a man entered the house and discharged what is believed to be a firearm before leaving the house.

“The 42-year-old man was then found with serious injuries and died at the scene a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and are currently searching the surrounding area for the suspect and viewing CCTV in the area.”
