A MAN in his sixties is in hospital after a sickening broad daylight attack in an Irvine car park.

A taxi driver is understood to have suffered a savage attack at around 1.30pm on Monday afternoon [June 1], after a disagreement with a female driver in the East Road car park.

A resident told the Times as the victim got out his car to then enter his home, a male passenger then got out the car, punched him on the head and knocked him down to the ground.

The man was found laying on the ground and given assistance before an ambulance crew arrived.

A resident said: "A lady from the chemist came out to make sure he was alright and an off-duty police woman came to help.

"I can't understand anyone wanting to hurt someone quite so bad. He just hit him down and dived in the car and they drove off."

The man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital after suffering bruising to the face, bad cuts, a grazed arm and a fractured hip.

One witness claimed the assailant was in a purple vehicle, believed to be a Skoda.

Police Scotland were contacted but were unable to send a statement before publication.

If anyone has any information or witnessed the incident police can be contacted on 101, in an emergency always call 999.
