Who says young people are lazy and don’t clean up their mess?

Well these young litter pickers from Ochiltree Primary have been busy tidying up their neighbourhood as lockdown measures begin to ease.

Luqa and John love to take walks around the Scottish countryside, but what they don’t love is seeing the rubbish left behind by others, so they decided to make matters into their own hands and asked East Ayrshire Council for help.

The council provided the young ramblers with litter picking tools and they got to work making their neighbourhood nicer for everyone.

Luqa and John said that they enjoyed their first longish walk post lockdown, but were upset at how much rubbish is left in the verges of the B7046.

They wished to pass on the following message to the people of Cumnock and the areas surrounding the B7046: “Please take your litter home or put it in a bin.”

With these two patrolling the streets we certainly wouldn’t want to get caught dropping our crisp packets.
