IRVINE’S Erin Cuthbert and her Chelsea teammates are celebrating after being named Women’s Super League winners.

The Blues were in second place but with one game in hand over Manchester City who were a point ahead when it was announced that the league would finish prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result it was decided that the final league standings would be decided based on a points-per-game system, which saw Chelsea crowned champions.

Cuthbert – a former Greenwood Academy pupil – joined Chelsea in 2016, signing from Glasgow City. Prior to that, she played for Rangers.

The Scotland international made 14 appearances for Chelsea in the league this season scoring two goals and providing four assists.

The 21-year-old said: “It was not the way in which any of us wanted to be crowned champions but that doesn’t take away the feeling of pride winning a title for this club.

“Thank you to the fans who have followed us up and down the country every week. This is as much yours as it is ours.”
