Scots are being encouraged to holiday locally this year, giving those in Ayrshire a chance to explore the beauty that's right on our doorstep.

With the five mile travel restriction now lifted, too, there is no better time to enjoy a domestic holiday and see what local sites have to offer.

Although you might have been wishing for a foreign escape, we have been busy sourcing the best spots to staycation in Ayrshire this summer, meaning you won't miss out on relaxation, lots of activity and hopefully some sunshine.

Auchrannie Resort, Arran

Irvine Times:

This idyllic spot on the Isle of Arran is sure to give you the luxury you’ve been craving throughout lockdown while only being an hour’s ferry ride away from Ardrossan.

Auchrannie is perfect for a summer break, especially now that the resort is reopening its self-catering lodges and retreats on Friday, July 3. The resort has also just unveiled its brand new two-bedroom retreats equipped with kitchen, dining area, living room and wood burning stove.

If you fancy a tipple, the resort’s Brambles beer garden will also reopen from Monday, July 6, with the restaurant and bar due to reopen midway through the month.

Culzean Castle – Camping and Caravanning, Girvan

Irvine Times:

Culzean Castle is ready to welcome guests back to its campsite from July 15 with full toilet facilities open, meaning a comfortable and fun-filled stay for all the family.

With lots of wide open space and greenery round about you, the campsite is perfecting for social distancing while still being able to enjoy the company of close family and friends in the great outdoors.

The grounds boast fantastic walks and beaches nearby, or you can head into Ayr centre for a spot of retail therapy. With the site dog friendly, too, this popular spot will guarantee some happy campers.

Blair Estate, Dalry

Irvine Times:

Scottish holiday-makers are invited to enjoy staycation bliss with this luxury castle accepting guests from Wednesday, July 15 and bookings for guests arriving from Friday, July 3 for self-catering in the Estate’s East Wing and Garden Cottage.

The Blair Estate will give visitors a self-professed ‘home away from home’ feel but as it is situated in the heart of the Ayrshire countryside, peace and tranquillity is almost guaranteed.

The Estate assures that all cleaning protocols are in place and invites those wishing to holiday locally to book now.

Heads of Ayr, Ayr

Irvine Times:

Situated on the Ayrshire coast, Heads of Ayr is a family favourite for anyone wanting to pitch a tent or hire a holiday home to enjoy a few nights of relaxation during the summer holidays.

With lots of local attractions nearby such as Dunure Castle, Burns Heritage Park and Heads of Ayr Farm Park, you are just a stone’s throw away from exploring the best sites Ayrshire has to offer.

You can also head to Ayr Beach to make the most of sunshine during your stay – weather permitting!

Lochside House Hotel & Spa, New Cumnock

Irvine Times:

The perfect lodge getaway in New Cumnock is now back open for business with its self-catering lodges available to book from Friday, July 3.

Set within 20 acres of land and overlooking two lochs, staycationers can enjoy stunning views, take walks in the countryside and entertain their group with their very own private terrace and hot tub.
