Businesses in Glasgow have days left to apply for the Government’s support grant if they have been impacted by the coronavirus lockdown.

Thousands of firms in the city have already applied and received cash to help see them though the lockdown and be able to trade when the economy hopefully, gradually picks up.

But the city council wants to ensure that every business who is eligible to apply has done so before the cut off day on Friday.

Around £100million has already been paid out in Glasgow since the lockdown in March, as companies struggle with meeting costs with reduced or no income.

The schemes that will close to new applicants on Friday are the Coronavirus Business Support Fund, the Newly Self-Employed Hardship Fund and the Bed & Breakfast/Small Serviced Accommodation Hardship Fund.

Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “Working with the Scottish Government, we have released more than £100 million through the Coronavirus Business Support Fund – protecting city businesses and their employees during the pandemic and laying the groundwork for recovery.

“We certainly don’t think many businesses that are eligible under the current scheme have not yet come forward – but, if anyone who meets the criteria has been waiting to apply, they should act now.”

There are two types of grant available under the Business Support Fund.

A £10,000 grant to ratepayers of businesses in receipt of the Small Business Bonus Scheme (SBGF) or Rural Relief.

The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure business Grant Fund for ratepayers with a rateable value between £18,001-£50,999 to apply for a one-off grant of £25,000.
