LICENSING chiefs have stopped a restaurant near Glasgow from selling alcohol in their beer garden.

Andiamo in Milngavie received a visit from East Dunbartonshire Council officials on Monday who told them that their current licence does not extend to outdoor drinking.

The eatery in the East Dunbartonshire town had previously been teasing fans in the run-up to the opening of their beer garden on Monday - but their ability to sell alcohol in the new facility has been halted.

Ann Davie, Depute Chief Executive - Education, People and Business, said: "Council officers visited Andiamo on Monday to inform the business owner that they did not have permission on their current liquor licence for outdoor drinking.

"As a complaint has now been received from the proprietor it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

Andiamo in Milngavie told the Glasgow Times that their premises is still open but they are just waiting on the green light from the council to sell alcohol in the gardens.

In a statement on their Facebook, the restaurant told customers: "Our outdoor dining area is fully open from 12 daily for food and drink.

"We are currently waiting on approval to sell alcohol. In the meantime, we are exploring the possibility of BYOB.

"The atmosphere in the outdoor space has been fantastic since we opened. Thank you to all who have joined us."
