An AUCHINLECK man’s marathon challenge to raise awareness of mental health has made thousands for charity.

Jordan Drummond, 24, pledged to run 10 marathons in 10 days for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) having dealt with his own personal issues in the past.

Disaster struck when thirteen miles into day five, Jordan felt a sharp pain in his knee.

A year and a half ago, Jordan suffered a sporting injury in the same knee, and he had been concerned it might cause problems.

He said: “I sat down, walked on then my knee gave way. I literally couldn’t walk anymore.

“I feel heartbroken but also incredibly proud of myself.

“I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would make it this far.

“From the bottom of my heart can I thank everyone for the amazing and continued support everyone has shown me.”

Jordan raised more than double his target, with donations and gift aid totalling £6,313.

He said: “I am absolute over the moon.

“The goal was always to raise awareness for mental health, something that’s very close to the heart for me personally for different reasons.”

Cumnock Chronicle:

Jordan, who runs In Da Hut Fitness in Cumnock with his dad Jim, said his father’s own struggle with depression and anxiety led him to take up fitness.

He told the Chronicle: “Seeing how big an impact fitness has on mental health is incredible.

“During what’s been happening in the current circumstances, you can see it’s having an even bigger impact.

“SAMH were still open, a lot of voluntary work still being done.”

Although Jordan’s challenge ended prematurely, he still achieved his goal of raising funds for charity and mental health awareness.

He said: “While in pursuit of my challenge I have been at my biggest high as well as my lowest low, both mentally and physically.

“But the support from everyone for this cause has made it so worthwhile.

A spokesperson for SAMH said: “A huge thank you to SAMH Supporter, Jordan, who raised over £6,000 by completing four and a half marathons over four days.”
