A sexual assault against a girl aged 16 has been reported in Irvine with another youngster released from custody pending further enquiries.
Police confirmed they are investigating an alleged sexual assault in the Tarryholme area following a concern for person call out earlier in the month [Friday, July 10].
Officers today confirmed another 16-year-old had been arrested by officers in connection with the incident.
Police added the accused teenager had since been released from custody pending further enquiries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a concern for person at an address in Irvine, at around 7.30am on Friday, July 10.
"Following initial enquiries, officers are treating this as a sexual assault against a 16-year-old girl.
"A 16-year-old person has been arrested and released pending further enquiries."
