DRIVERS in East Ayrshire have been warned to allow more time for the journeys as essential road improvement works are carried out.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance will be carrying out essential road resurfacing on a section of the A713 Ayr to Dalmellington road and two sections on the A70 Cumnock to Douglas road.

These works will commence on Monday, July 27 and will be in place until the end of August.

The roadworks will involve removing sections of the existing road surface, regulating, adjusting ironware, laying a new surface course and renewing the associated road markings and studs.

To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public, three sections of the road will remain closed over a number of weekends, which will be signed appropriately.

The first of the three locations of the works is on the A713 between Hollybush and Polnessan, which is due to start next Monday.

All preparatory work will be carried out on weekdays between 8am and 5pm and a convoy traffic management system will be in place.

This section of the road will be closed for three weekends too between 8am-6pm on August 1 and 2, August 8 and 9 and August 15 and 16.

Secondly, on the A70 between Cumnock and Muirkirk, roadworks will commence on Monday, August 3.

This will continue for three weeks on weekdays between 8am-5pm and again three weekends will be required to finish the new surface.

These will land on August 8/9, August 15/16 and August 22/23.

Lastly, works on the A70 between Muirkirk and Glenbuck will start on Monday, August 17 and will take place over two weeks.

These will take up to two weekend road closures from 8am-6pm over August 22/23 and August 29/30.

Alternative routes will be in place for all three sets of roadworks, with updates available at www.ayrshireroadalliance.org.
