The public telephone booth on Main Street in Sorn could be removed unless the community wishes to adopt it.
BT, who manage the phone booths, have deemed the classic, red telephone cubby “surplus to requirements.”
A council spokesperson said: “East Ayrshire Council’s planning department has been consulted by BT on the removal of a further five phone boxes within East Ayrshire.
“The planning department will carry out the standard consultations
as required with this process with the local community via the relevant community councils. It will then feed back the views of the local community on the removal of these phone boxes to BT.
“As part of this process, BT may decide to make these phone boxes available for ‘adoption’ by the local community.”
