AN IRVINE cyclist has raised around £1,000 after taking on a grand tour to his old hometown and back again to help three charities.

Michael Rogerson, 35, is now halfway through his epic cycle from his home in Irvine all the way back to his old house in Datchet and back again.

And now Michael is getting set to do the return leg covering roughly 1,000 miles for the National Autism Society, Buttle UK and Datchet United charities.

At time of going to press, Michael had raised £940 on his JustGiving page.

Before setting of on another days cycling, Michael told the Times: “I’ve done 560 miles, I gave myself two weeks but wanted to do it in 10 days this is my 10th day on the bike and I have 40 miles now.

“I’m in Stevenage now and by tomorrow I’ll be at the middle point in Datchet – so I’ll be having four or five days off before I return.

“Last year I worked at an autistic school volunteering and I wanted to do something for the National Autism Society, a Datchet charity who had helped my family when younger and Buttle UK who help out all kinds of disadvantaged children.

“Every Summer I usually work but because of the current situation I am not doing that this year. It’s been quite good actually, I’ve had people stopping when out in middle of nowhere and giving me drinks and stuff out of the kindness of their are hearts and got to use a campsite for free.

“The total right now is about £940. I would love to hit a target of £4,000 so then each charity would get more than £1,000 but to be honest if no one else donated more now I would still be delighted, I really would It’s been worth every mile.”
