A MAN has suffered serious facial injuries after he was attacked by a gang of four in Irvine last night.

A 53-year-old man was assaulted by four men, he was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

The incident took place around 5.45pm on Gigha Crescent.

Police have now launched a hunt for the gang, and have provided a description of two of the male suspects.

The first is described as a teenager, around 5ft 10 with short, brown hair.

The second is aged between 16-20, around 6ft 1 with a skinhead.

There is no description of the two other male suspects involved.

Officers have asked residents, members of the public or anyone who may driven past to check their dash-cam footage.

Detective Sergeant Stephen McCulloch, of Saltcoats CID, said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack which has left the man with serious facial injuries.

"I am appealing to nearby residents and members of the public who heard or saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact police urgently.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage of people or a car matching this description to get in touch.

"If you have any information which could assist our investigation, please contact police on 101, quoting reference number 2902 of 11 August. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111."
