CALLOUS vandals have left a trail of destruction at Saltcoats Victoria FC’s home ground.

The junior football club have been left reeling after yobs broke into containers smashed up a TV and threw chairs stored away for a new hospitality facility around the park and sprayed tomato sauce everywhere.

Garden tools were also snatched, whilst the group also dented the containers which are the benchmark for a new future at Campbell Park.

The Herald previously told how the club had received donations of storage containers from Kilwinning Rangers FC which they plan to use to transform facilities - including a new changing room.

But this latest set back has left them counting the cost with an estimated £1,000 worth of damage.

Club vice chairwoman and treasurer Miriam Wyllie told the Herald: “It’s galling , but it could have been an awful lot worse.

“Someone has gone down and cut off the padlocks, one of the containers have been there for two or three years and no one has ever looked at it before. But they know we are trying to make improvements now.

“They’ve broken garden equipment tools; they’ve hit everything off the side of the cabins with brute force that it’s actually dented them.

“It immediately cost us money to replace the padlocks, now we will have to get a joiner in to do repairs.

“We’re trying to make better facilities here but it’s a set back having to deal with this.”

The vandals escaped by heading through the nearby caravan park.

Miriam has praised the police for a quick response who were there in minutes and has fired a warning to anyone else considering vandalising the facilities.

She said: “It’s ridiculous we have to think about anything like this, but I what I will say to anyone thinking about coming back to cause trouble is that the whole ground is covered by CCTV.

“There is always someone watching, and the community have helped us greatly with information which has been passed on the police.”

Police are appealing for information in regards to the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “There was a report of property damaged at Campbell Park at 1.50pm on Thursday, August 6 and enquiries are ongoing to trace persons responsible.

“Anyone with information regards this matter please contact 101 quoting incident number 1837.”
