Emergency services raced to the scene, with paramedics, police and fire crews all attending to those injured.

A number of people who were hurt during the crash were air-lifted to the mainland, whilst other casualties were treated at Arran War Memorial Hospital.

The majority of those injured were discharged on Friday.

Professor Hazel Borland, Nurse Director for NHS Ayrshire and Arran said: "Following an incident on the Isle of Arran on Thursday, September 3, a small number of patients were transferred to Arran War Memorial Hospital and University Hospital Crosshouse to receive treatment for a range of injuries with majority now being discharged."

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch last week launched a probe into the crash.
