AYRSHIRE has been viewed through the eyes of 13 people from all walks of life as part of a lockdown project with the Gaiety Theatre.

A unique film called ‘You’ve Always Meant so Much to Me’ pens a heartfelt tribute on the length and breadth of Ayrshire from Ballantrae to Largs.

The group took part in drama and filmmaking workshops which were part of the Ayr theatre’s lockdown season.

Led by exciting Scottish artists and hoping to bring ‘a wee dose of happiness’ during a difficult time for the industry, a film was created showcasing some of Ayrshire’s most famous and infamous sites.

The participants explored what Ayrshire meant to them through stories, poems and filmmaking.

The film which is voiced over by each of the 13 was inspired by Stephen James Smith’s ‘Dublin You Are’.

References are made to Ayrshire’s countless beaches, open countryside and rich history.

But the video all touches on damning issues such as mental health, issues with litter and shops closing down.

There is also a reference to the coronavirus pandemic which left streets in Ayrshire in lockdown.

In typical Ayrshire fashion, the film finishes off by paying a tribute to traditional Burns style, it ends: “Wi yer angry skies and balmy sea, Ye’ve always meant Sae much tae me.”

The Gaiety ask that a generous donation is made to save the future of the theatre which has been hit hard during lockdown.
