AN IRVINE girl raised £500 through cutting off some of her hair to help children fighting cancer.

Greenwood pupil Nieve Byrne had her hair cut for The Little Princess Trust earlier in the month.

Nieve had originally planned to get her hair cut on April 16. However with the COVID-19 lockdown kicking in, she finally got 12 inches off it at Miss Dees hairdressers on Friday, September 4.

And Nieve not only donated the 12inches of hair, but raised an amazing £510 for the charity.

Nieve said: “I have been lucky to have long, thick hair since I have been little. This has allowed me to experiment different styles and express myself.

“I want to let children who are going through a hard time feel confident and enjoy finding their style to suit them.

“My hair is a huge part of what makes me happy and giving a child a chance to have some happiness makes me smile.”

When a child loses their hair to cancer or another condition, the Little Princess Trust provide a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity while funding research in the fight to end childhood cancer forever.

Proud mum Tracy Elder added that she and husband Steven were very proud of Nieve for being so thoughtful and kind.
