With government guidelines on social gatherings changing frequently, it can be difficult to find interesting activities for your downtime.

We’ve found five exciting outdoor activities which can be enjoyed whilst adhering to the current advice to meet in groups of no more than six people from two households.

They are suitable for adults and children, so whether it’s a family day out, or a meet up with friends, there’s something for everyone.

This series of obstacle courses is the newest feature at the historic Craufurdland Estate in Kilmarnock.

The courses are family oriented and allow for children as young as five to enjoy an exhilarating day out in the midst of some beautiful scenery.

The obstacles are set at varying heights and can take one to three hours to complete depending on the package chosen.

There are three different packages available: the Explorer Experience, the Pioneer Experience and the Hero Experience.

These offer varying levels of difficulty, with the Explorer being suitable for ages five and up, and the Hero better suited to those over the age of 13.

COVID restrictions are in place to allow customers to enjoy their visit in a safe environment.

Culzean Castle, Maybole

With 120 hectares of land and 17 miles of pathways to explore, the country park at Culzean Castle is certain to have something for everyone.

It is a site with both a rich history and landscape visitors can take in at their leisure.

The park is sculpted on miles of sandy coastline and has everything from woods and beaches, to adventure coves and wild woodland play areas.

It also features an 18th century walled garden where the ‘Ailsa Craig’ onion was first bred in 1870.

Admission prices for adults is £11.85 and concessions are £8.50. Family passes are also available for £20.10 - £27.05.

If you’re looking to get active whilst enjoying a day out with friends or family, why not get the clubs dusted off?

Auchenharvie Loch offers a picturesque nine hole course, which can be played as an 18-hole if desired.

A round of the relatively flat course costs £14 for adults and £5.50 for juniors.

As well as the traditional golfing facilities, the site features a driving range and a footgolf course which is suitable for all ages.

Footgolf is available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at a cost £3 for juniors and £5 for adults.

Dumfries House, Cumnock

Spread across 2,000 acres of land, the Dumfries House Estate boasts an array of stunning gardens and attractions.

The estate includes features such as woodland walks, a Chinese bridge, a newly refurbished arboretum and an outdoor pool, to name but a few.

It is also home to a maze comprised of 2,000 six-feet high trees, with a Japanese pagoda at the centre.

The maze was the idea of HRH Prince Charles who was inspired by a similar one at Sandringham during his childhood. The estate was purchased by the Duke of Rothesay in 2007.

Dumfries House has plenty to offer for children also, with an adventure playground and an educational farm on site also.

Millport Circular Route, Cumbrae

Often referred to as the “Island of a Thousand Bicycles”, a trip to Cumbrae is a great day out for all ages with a picturesque 10-mile route.

Regular ferries run between the island and Largs for £3.40 for adults and £1.70 for children, with buses also running between the Cumbrae Slip and the town of Millport.

There are several businesses offering bike hire in the town, with different types of cycles available.
