AN AYRSHIRE Hospice nurse was given a warning for claiming sick pay while working shifts in a care home.

Fiona Frances Collins admitted that while a registered nurse she worked shifts for Springhill Care Home while in receipt of sick pay from Ayrshire Hospice.

Collins was given a caution order last month with the Nursing and Midwifery Council finding that her fitness to practice was impaired after working with the Ayrshire Hospice in 2018.

The Hospice was notified in November 25, 2018 that Mrs Collins had been undertaking shifts as a staff nurse in Kilmarnock with Springhill, confirming Collins attended on 14 dates.

Meeting papers from the NMC hearing state that Collins admitted to the charge when caught out “but hadn’t realised that this was wrong.

The Nurse and Midwifery Council said: “The panel was satisfied that Mrs Collins fully and unequivocally admits the charges.

“The panel was of the view that Mrs Collins’ actions were a serious departure from the standards expected of a registered nurse. Honesty and integrity are the bedrocks of the nursing profession.

“The panel decided to make a 12 month caution order.”
