The colour of Merryvale footbridge in Irvine is in the hands of the public with an online poll to decide its future shade online this week.

From noon on Monday (September 21), people can vote for the colour they think the local landmark should be painted. Three shades will be whittled down to one, based on the public vote, and used to freshen up the footbridge.

Residents will have the choice of either Dark Cherry, Duchess Blue or Ivy Green.

The vote will be held on Facebook via the ‘Irvine Virtual Community Centre’ group, with the most popular colour being painted onto the footbridge as part of refurbishment works next Spring/Summer.

The three colour options have been selected as they are traditional heritage shades, in keeping with the style and design on the footbridge.

Cllr Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Green New Deal and Sustainability said: “Merryvale footbridge is in need of refurbishment and who better to decide on its colour than the people who use it.

“We’ve selected three suitable shades for residents to choose from which will not only spruce up the footbridge but, combined with the refurbishment work, ensure that the footbridge can be enjoyed by many generations to come. Have your say on what colour you think would work best by taking part in the poll via Facebook.”
