A village sports centre has been forced to close after a car crashed into the building.

Coylton Activity Centre has a large crack running down one of its walls following the collision.

The South Ayrshire Council-run hub has remained shut since the incident, which occurred more than a week ago.

The building is considered unsafe.

Fencing has been erected around the cracked area to keep people away from the damaged wall.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesman said: “Coylton Activity Centre remains closed.

“The police are investigating, so it would be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this time.”

When asked how long it will be before residents can expect it to reopen again, the council did not confirm how long the closure will last.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 5.05pm on Sunday, 20 September, 2020, we received a report of a car hitting a wall on Hole Road, Coylton, Ayr.”

The centre, which has squash courts, a gym and a multi purpose hall is used for playing tennis, football and other sports.
