Pupils at Dalmilling Primary have been experiencing the wonders of nature and the joys of the fresh air as part of the school’s outdoor learning scheme.

All classes at the school have spent time outdoors completing various fun activities such as den making while also learning about nature and living creatures.

Outdoor learning teacher Karen Bulloch, said: “All classes at Dalmilling Primary have been accessing regular outdoor learning this year as part of a whole school approach.

“The children have been experiencing hands on practical activities such as den making, observing living things closely and working with natural materials creatively.

“Any curricular learning can be achieved outside, and this can enhance

the learning that is

being done in the classrooms.

“In addition, children can be more active, enjoy the fresh air and space; this can be very motivating and inspiring.

“Problem solving skills, creative thinking, confidence building and team working happen naturally when engaging in these types of activities.

“A wider aim is to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for nature and how we can enjoy it to enhance our wellbeing.

“The children have been consulted also on what types of outdoor learning they enjoy and ways in which their school outdoor area could be made better for enjoyment and learning.”
