A man was taken to hospital after he was rescued following a fall from a harbour wall in Irvine.

Four emergency services worked to rescue the individual from the shore near Harbour Road, last night.

Police Scotland, the Coastguard, and the Fire and Ambulance Services were all dispatched to aid in the operation at around 8.50pm [Wednesday, October 21].

Following the 999 call,Β first-responders from all four agencies attended to carry out the 'successful multi-agency rescue'.

The man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital by ambulance, details of his injuries are unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police and emergency services were called around 8.50 pm on Wednesday, 21 October, 2020, following concern for a man who had fallen from a harbour wall on Harbour Road, Irvine.

"SFRS rescued man from the water's edge and he was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital... No further police action."

Kevin Paterson, Station Officer at Ardrossan Coastguard and Operations and Engagement Sergeant at Police Scotland Control Room, attended the mission having been out taking part in a training session with his team.

He praised the multi-agency response, describing it as: "Interoperability and partnership working at its best."
