Six houses could be built in place of an empty dental surgery in Kilwinning.

Plans have been lodged with North Ayrshire Council to erect the semi detached homes on Fergushill Road at the Kilwinning clinic site.

The dentist building would be demolished if the plans get the go-ahead.

Arfan Dad, of Edinburgh, has applied for planning permission to knock down the surgery and build the properties.

Plans show three bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom and ensuite in the two storey properties.

The ground floor designs show a lounge, kitchen with dining area, utility room and toilet.

Proposals also include an access road, parking and garden ground. There would be 14 car parking spaces. Drawings show a tarmac footpath leading to the 230m2 dental centre is to be removed.

The council’s Active Travel and Transport team said that the new road for the homes should have a gradient of no more than eight per cent.

The application for the development is now being considered by the council.

It is expected council planning officials would made the decision on whether to grant panning permission without councillors having the final say.

As part of a consultation The Coal Authority states there are mining hazards in the area.

The report said: “The applicant has submitted some coal mining information to accompany the planning application.

“However, the Coal Authority does not consider this adequately addresses the impact of coal mining legacy on the proposed development.

“The Coal Authority therefore objects to this planning application, and we consider that the applicant needs to submit a Coal Mining Risk Assessment Report to the LPA.”
