A MAN appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow today accused of murdering 42-year-old Paul Cairns by blasting him with a shotgun.

Forty-three-year-old Garland Greene, also known as James Ferguson, denies entering 11 Nithsdale Road, Ardrossan, with his face masked on May 24, and murdering Mr Cairns by shooting him on the body.

Mr Greene, who was represented by QC Tony Graham, is also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of clothing, a shotgun and ammunition in a bin at 32 Dirrans Terrace, Kilwinning, on May 24.

He is also charged with having a shotgun and ammunition in his possession and having no firearms certificate.

Greene denies all the charges against him.

The case is prepared for trial and is expected to last six days.

No trial diet could be set because of the coronavirus situation and a further hearing will take place next year.

Judge Lord Burns said: “I shall continue this case until January 22 next year.”
