An Irvine teenager who appeared on the Voice Kids UK has now released a debut single with his band The Barely Responsible.

The young indie rockers featuring Blair Gilmour on guitar and lead vocals, Kyle McFie on bass and Sam Craig on drums, released their first single Boundaries – now available to download - which Blair revealed he wrote after the death of his Nana.

Fourteen-year-old Blair stunned The Voice Kids UK. judges Danny Jones, Paloma Faith, Pixie Lott and Will.i.am with his vocals when he appeared – despite being a complete non-singer til April last year.

The singer and guitarist also showed off his drumming skills – which he learned to help with his tourettes – in an impromptu jam with judges.

Irvine Times:

Will.i.am told the youngster: “You have natural Glastonbury stage presence”.

Explaining how The Barely Responsible got together, Blair said: “Kyle and myself had been in a band together previously when I was 13.

“We have played the Barrowlands in 2018 and other venues like the Classic Grand which we have headlined and been a support act and ever since then kept jamming.

“There were two other members in The Barely Responsible who went on to do their own thing and Kyle and myself stuck together and put a post on Facebook looking for a new drummer and up popped Sam Craig.”

Boundaries was recorded from their bedrooms with Kyle being the master behind the editing and mastering.

Blair said:“When the restrictions weren’t as strict we used to rehearse every week but we had to stop and thought it would be better to just chat and put together what we could over Zoom. For the release of Boundaries we kept having meetings about setting a date.

“It was agreed for October 26, then Kyle did all his magic getting all the stuff sorted for all the platforms it was going out on.”

The boys said they were amazed and extremely grateful at the response it had with the streams it got. Thanking all of their followers, friends, family and communities fir their continuous support.

Blair revealed: “My nana passed last year and in that week that she had died I sat in the house and came up with the guitar riff for Boundaries, and then the lyrics just came to me.

“It all revolved around her passing away. The chorus is about her but then the verses each part tells a different story.”

Irvine Times:

Despite the coronavirus pandemic making things difficult for live music, Blair added “We’re looking forward to recording more songs anyway.

“Just going into the studio and hammering out songs is the plan when things get a bit easier and write more tunes.”
