A case of coronavirus has been confirmed at Lawthorn primary with parents of pupils written to.

Affected children and staff have now been told to self-isolate since the positive case within one of the classes at Lawthorn Primary school.

The school assured government guidelines were being followed and said they would be contact regarding home-learning on Monday.

In an email seen by the Times, the head teacher stated: "I have been informed that there has been a positive COVID-19 result. This means all children and adults within the class must self-isolate with immediate effect.

"I understand that this information may cause concern and I would like to reassure you that we have followed the Scottish Government guidance for reporting a positive case.

"You will therefore be contacted by Public Health to advise you of the self-isolation procedures for your child."

Lynne McNiven, Joint Director of Public Health said: "NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Test and Protect team is conducting contact tracing within Lawthorn Primary in the North Ayrshire Council area.

"A small number of individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 14 days following contact with a small cluster of cases who have tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time.

"We would like to remind people of the symptoms of COVID-19: new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.

"Everyone in Ayrshire and Arran is reminded to remember the FACTS guidance."
