Irvine's beach park car park had to be closed off in the early hours while the army disposed of an unexploded piece of ordnance.
The Army's EOD [Explosive Ordnance Disposal] unit brought an unexploded item to Irvine last night - which its understood was transported down from the Glasgow area.
Police Scotland confirmed officers were assisting the EOD while they were disposing of an item.
A spokesperson said: "A piece of old recovered ordanance from Glasgow was brought to Irvine last night [Monday] for EOD disposal about 7.45am this morning [Tuesday, November 10].
"We stood by until this was complete."
The Army were contacted regarding the incident.
