AN IRVINE music teacher will run as a Conservative candidate – this time against the town’s incumbent MSP Ruth Maguire.

North Ayrshire and Arran’s Scottish Conservative and Unionist Association have now announced their Cunninghame South candidate as David Rocks.

The SNP previously selected current MSP Ruth Maguire to once again fight for the seat for Irvine, Kilwinning and Stevenston – with Labour still to announce their candidate.

Mr Rocks, 35, said: “I am very grateful to the members who selected me to be their candidate for Cunninghame South.

“It is an area where I have always lived and worked and I look forward to getting our positive message out there in the lead up to the election in May.

“We have excellent Conservative councillors in the constituency and I will continue to work with them to build a better future for the people of Irvine, Kilwinning and Stevenston.’

Mr Rocks previously came second place in North Ayrshire and Arran in 2017 while securing 14,818 votes.

He was again chosen to oppose the SNP and Labour in the general election last year in the same constituency taking 14,855 votes in second place.
