A man is due to appear in court this afternoon facing a murder bid charge. 

The 22-year-old has been charged with attempted murder in connection to wilful fire-raising on a property on Union Street in Greenock. 

Fire crews were called to the scene on Monday, 13 July after the alarm was raised of a blaze stemming from a property along the street. 

He was arrested at a property on Grieve Road on yesterday.

He is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court today.

Detective Superintendent Gerry McBride of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division said: “This is the third arrest and charge in connection with the wilful fireraising at Union Street in Greenock in July and another significant development in relation to our investigations into recent firereaising's in the area. 

“I would like to once again thank the public and our partners for their ongoing support during what has been a concerning time in the community. Investigations are still ongoing and I would continue to urge anyone with information to please contact police.”
