Ayrshire Cancer Support have given a heartfelt thanks after a man raised nearly £6,000 walking from Irvine to Ayr beach.

Iain Morgan has just successfully participated in Ayrshire Cancer Support’s Hope and Memories event, where fundraisers choose to walk any distance, anywhere.

Iain chose to walk from Irvine Beach Park to Ayr Beach (roughly 16 miles) raising an incredible £5,805.

Irvine Times:

Iain sadly lost his wife, Lorna Morgan, on August 20 this year and walked in her memory.

In honour of Iain’s achievement, a beautifully engraved leaf will be added to the Hope and Memory Tree in the charity’s garden in lasting memory of Lorna.

Iain, from Crookedholm, said “I was raising funds in memory of Lorna because Ayrshire Cancer Support helped both of us in recent tough moments.

“On the day of the walk I couldn’t believe the support I received from friends and family dropping in along the way to say ‘hi’ and it was very fitting that we organised a balloon release in Ayr at the end of the walk in memory of Lorna. All wonderful.

“The donations pledged are even more wonderful and amazing and mind blowing. Lorna was and continues to be my inspiration and the same for many others. To have a little lasting memorial in the garden is a meaningful and unique way to remember Lorna”.

Martin Quigley, community and events fundraising manager for Ayrshire Cancer Support said: “Huge thanks to Iain and family for sharing their story with us. Iain pulled out all the stops for Ayrshire Cancer Support and it is thanks to him, his family and friends that we can continue supporting families all across Ayrshire affected by cancer. What a phenomenal amount raised!

“I’m sure people will be inspired to take on our Hope and Memory event after hearing how well Iain has done. We are grateful for the support of all fundraisers, whose generosity is crucial to the services we provide for those affected by cancer”.

The charity is encouraging residents to take part over the Autumn and Winter months where you can raise funds by walking in hope and solidarity with those going through a cancer treatment, living with cancer or in memory of someone special.”
