SCORES of young people are isolating after a pupil at a school near Glasgow tested positive for coronavirus. 

A concerned parent - who wished to remain anonymous - told the Glasgow Times that 40 to 50 pupils at Turnbull High School were isolating after a young person found out they had the virus. 

East Dunbartonshire council did not confirm the number of pupils staying home from the Bishopbriggs school after being identified as close contacts of the infected pupil.

But the council's deputy head of schools stressed that they were implementing rigorous cleaning measures and working with health authorities to stem the spread of the deadly bug. 

Ann Davie, the council's depute chief executive of Education, People and Business, said: "We are fully supportive of Public Health at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and have assisted with test and protect at Turnbull High.

"Those individuals who have been identified as contacts (all of whom will have been individually contacted by the Test and Protect Team) are self-isolating at home.

"Robust control measures are in place at all our schools, and there is no evidence of transmission within the school.

"Schools are working with parents and carers to minimise the disruption to learning for those pupils who require to self-isolate and are providing reassurance to the whole school community."
