A man has been arrested and charged in Irvine as part of an ongoing investigation into car thefts.

Officers from Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division’s Serious and Organised Crime Team were assisted by colleagues from Greater Glasgow and Ayrshire Division as part of an operation surrounding car thefts and attempted car thefts taking place between December 2019 and June 2020.

As a result, four men aged 34, 37, 39 and 41 years were arrested and charged in the Irvine, Barrhead, Paisley and Johnstone areas on Friday, November 27, connection with car theft and related offences.

The four men are due to appear before Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, November 30.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie, based at Paisley Police Office, said: “Our investigation is continuing into a number of car thefts and attempted car thefts that took place throughout the west of Scotland from December 2019 and June 2020. 

“We are committed to tackling crimes that affect those living in our local communities, and we will use every resource available to ensure we trace the people responsible.
