The team behind the renovation of an iconic Saltcoats building is hoping supporters will help raise the funds to bring the project to fruition.

Having spent months clearing out the derelict former Regal Cinema building on Hamilton Street, the Metro Reloaded duo have invested thousands of hours into the renovations.

Last month, they had their application for a provisional premises licence accepted by North Ayrshire Council, taking them closer to realising their dreams.

A spokesperson for Metro Reloaded said: “With all the well known clubs that first impacted the music scene in Scotland either closed down, converted to flats or even gone completely we decided to save this building from being just another distant memory.

“We aim to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all that attend the venue in the future, whether it be the nightclub nights on a Saturday or the live bands and tribute acts on a Friday we will try our upmost to provide a great night for all.”

But the team want the Metro to be a community hub, somewhere that groups can host functions, and where families, businesses and charities can find the space they need to hold their events.

From repairing the roof to dealing with the rainwater flooding that had built up over the years, the Metro Reloaded team have been working hard during the lockdown to push their plans ahead.

To take them to the next stage, they are looking to raise £50,000 to complete the refurbishment.

Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald:

A spokesperson said: “For anyone that doesn’t know, we are two passionate residents of Saltcoats that have spent well over 2,000 man hours between us [over] the last year trying to get this place up to a high standard.

“After the huge step forward in gaining the provisional licence now is the time to push on and get the place ready to open as soon as the current situation of the virus is under control.”

Once the doors open, it will be the first time in over nine years revellers will be able to enjoy a night in the Metro, it having closed down in 2011.

The venue will also be the largest of its kind across the whole of Ayrshire – which the owners hope means it will attract big acts from all over.
