A MAN has died after his Audi crashed into a bus near Maybole sparking an investigation by the police watchdog.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) have launched a probe after the death of a 25-year-old man in the fatal road crash on Saturday, November 28 around 7.55pm.

The man was driving a blue Audi A4 when it collided with a single decker service bus on the B7023 around a mile south of Maybole.

Emergency services rushed to the crash, but the 25-year-old driver of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report was sent to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) who have instructed the PIRC to investigate the actions of police leading up to the crash.

The car was seen by police officers on mobile patrol in Kirkoswald Street and Culzean Road. The Audi was last seen by the officers travelling at speed in Crosshill Road along the B7023 prior to the crash.

The PIRC are now appealing for any witnesses to help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the investigation Team said:“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“In particular, the investigation team are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and seen an Audi, or marked Ford Transit police van, being driven prior to the collision, or who may have dash cam footage or any other information which may help with our investigation."
