Everyone knows people make Glasgow, but this Christmas season an elf is making sure festive spirits remain high.

With markets and well-known events like the annual Santa going virtual, one Renfrewshire couple set out to ensure bring Christmas joy to the city's kids.

Lesley and Ricky Laverty decided to bring the Elf on the Shelf tradition to life in Glasgow.

And Glaswegians are loving it.

Since the start of Elf on a Shelf Glasgow in November, they have visited a wide range of familiar sites from Ibrox Stadium and Celtic Park to central Glasgow.

Lesley explained they just wanted to guarantee kids experienced Christmas cheer amid the coronavirus restrictions.

"We just thought obviously because of Covid the kids won't get to see Santa or other Christmas traditions," she said.

"We have been visiting landmarks across the city but a lot of people have found out about it after we visited Ibrox primary."

Videos of the visit captured the ecstatic kids who spotted the elf.

One social media user Jayne Munn said: "This is so good. You guys are doing such an amazing job. So professional to add to that. Loving our cheeky elf."

While their two children are all grown up, Lesley who works as a nanny, knew they could make these hard times a bit better for kids.

Alongside allowing parents to book a socially-distanced visit from the elf, the couple is also working with charities.

Next week Glasgow's Elf on a Shelf will visit a four-year-old Clydebank boy Caleb fighting a brain tumour.
