A DOMESTIC abuse victim claims social workers stole her kids while she fled her partner – after expressing fears of her children going into care.

The woman – who we have not named to protect the identity of her children – told how North Ayrshire social workers removed the children from her when she reached out to authorities after years of abuse.

After freeing herself from her ex, the woman, who suffers physical health problems, told the Times social services still have her three youngest kids – after their father was convicted of threatening and abusive behaviour to them and assaulting one with a blade.

North Ayrshire’s Health and Social Care Partnership refused to comment on the case – but said child safety was an absolute priority.

She told the Times: “I went to them for help and the next day they were trying to get my children away. I didn’t think my children would be safe in care – and they were like ‘you can’t say that’.

“I’m terrified of losing these three children. The first time they took them away it was because he was on remand and that the house needed fixed up – whenever we tried to clean it he would start fights or abusing us verbally – that was the excuse, the house and him on remand. At the first child protection meeting I had no one there to represent me. It was the social work and me and the children.

“The panel meetings are biased towards them. They had accused me of exposing them to domestic abuse – you don’t know what it’s like in that situation.

“They’ve been grasping at straws to keep my children – they twist the things I say. I’m not the only person who has been suffering, there’s women and men who have had the same treatment. They can’t keep doing this to people who have already suffered enough.

“I’ve been trying to get over it but I can still see him – saying the things and doing the things he’s done.

An NAHSCP spokesperson said: “We don’t comment on individual cases. All decisions are taken with the wellbeing and safety of children as an absolute priority.”
