A CHARITY’S Christmas Day treat for elderly people is going ahead, thanks to the help of Kilwinning based company,

Wiltshire Farm Foods staff made the kind donation for an annual Ayrshire party to bring a bit of joy to pensioners had to be sadly called off.

Every year, on December 25, Voluntary Action South Ayrshire (VASA) hold Christmas Companions – a free party with a slap-up lunch, entertainment and presents especially for people over 65 who might otherwise be facing a very lonely day.

But this year, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and fears of a new mutant strain spreading across the country, the annual event had to be shelved.

Charity bosses were determined they would deliver some Christmas treats instead but were unsure how they could supply a Christmas dinner to everyone’s door – until the big-hearted team at Wiltshire Farm Food in Simpson Place stepped in to help.

Now more than 120 older people all over South Ayrshire will be receiving a turkey dinner on Christmas Day, along with a hamper packed with presents and treats, delivered to their doorstep by volunteers.

Marie Oliver, chief officer of Voluntary Action South Ayrshire [VASA], said: “We want to say a big thank you to Wiltshire Farm Foods for helping make sure we can deliver a taste of Christmas to a lot of older folk who are going to be on their own and making it a happier day for them.”
