Work has started on new floodlights and stand foundations at Kilwinning Sports Club after the Buffs plans were approved.

An application was submitted for eight new 15metre high floodlights at the main football pitch at the Buffs new home after the club previously made their big move to Pennyburn.

Permission was previously given for the spectator viewing shelters earlier in the year.

And work kicked off last week to erect the Abucus sports pack HL250 lights and stands last week after plans submitted by chair Colin Boyd were approved by planning chiefs.

Colin said: “We need them to comply with the SFA licence. They are LED 1,000 watts which will give which will give us about 280 lux on the pitch.

“It’s been fantastic at KSC. The youth section has really grown and we’ve added a lot of new teams. Everyone seems to be puling in the same direction.”

The report states: “Permission was approved subject to conditions earlier in 2020 for the erection of spectator viewing shelters around the football pitch.

“Kilwinning Rangers FC are based at Kilwinning Sports Club and these works are associated with required upgrades to meet the standards of the football authorities.”

This comes after the club previously made the big move to Kilwinning Sports Club after fans voted to leave Abbey Park, with the club’s old pitch no longer fit for purpose.

The Herald exclusively revealed back in June 2018 that Buffs bosses had been eyeing a move to the sports club as a possible solution to mounting problems at Abbey Park.
