Irvine’s new secure unit to help mentally-ill kids across Scotland is now set to be named Foxgrove with work to start this year.
The name for the new national secure unit for youngsters aged 12-17 next to Woodland View was approved by North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Parnership’s Integration Joint Board at their last meeting last month.
A list of four names were shortlisted for the facility with the help of the projects Public Reference Group and the Irvine Youth Forum.
Meeting papers state views were particularly encouraged from young people to vote for one of the four choices which took place in August 2020.
The choices were: Aspen, Carduus, Foxgrove and Parkland View – with Foxgrove receiving the most votes by the public.
The new 12 bedded National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service facility for young people aged 12 to 17 years will admit youngsters with a range of complex mental health difficulties and risk, which cannot be managed within other mental health services in Scotland.
It is hoped work facility will kick off early Spring this year.
