Emergency services rushed to a Kilwinning street today after a house caught fire.

Fire crews were called out to Eglinton Place in the town shortly before midday where they were met with a ‘well-developed fire’ in a living room.

Due to the severity of the fire, four appliances were mobilised with police and an ambulance also dispatched.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident with one individual checked for smoke inhalation by a paramedic without needing to attend hospital.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four appliances were called out to Eglinton Place in Kilwinning at 11.53am and on arrival crews were met with a well-developed fire in a living room in one of the properties.

“The fire was extinguished at 12.19pm and after that crews checked the property for hotspots with thermal imaging cameras.

“One person was checked by the Scottish Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation but was discharged and did not need hospital treatment.”

Police Scotland also confirmed they were in attendance for traffic management purposes with part of the street cordoned off.
