Plans to light up the windows of Pennyburn with colourful art displays may have been put on hold by the new lockdown – but organisers say as soon as it is lifted the Window Wanderland will go ahead.

Organised by the Pennyburn Regeneration Youth Development Enterprise, PRYDE at

PLAYZ community centre in Pennyburn, the plan was to host a winter night time walk on January 30.

This special, open air art gallery has been led by teenagers was part of an international campaign to bring some light into people’s lives during these darker days.

So last month the youngsters appealed to Pennyburn residents to sign up to take part.

They offered them start packs to decorate their windows, fences and their gardens, helping to transform them into their very own art installations.

Now, with the new lockdown imposed organisers say they will have to postpone until the Scottish Government eases restrictions. Their provisional date for the event is now March 8.

Neal McHarg, from PRYDE, said: “We’re moving the date back to remain safe now that we are facing a lockdown similar to last March.”

Kilwinning Councillor Donald Reid can’t wait to join the Window Wanderland and said: “Pryde have been working away to provide services in our community during these difficult times and this has to be appreciated.

“The slightly different style of event engages other communities and lets creative minds flow and I am sure as soon as they are allowed to host the event they will have us out walking the trail for what I am sure will be an amazing Window Wanderland.”

During the Wanderland, Kilwinning residents will be able to take a Window Wanderland walk round Pennyburn to see the final art work on display.

Since it opened, Pryde has put helping the community at its forefront, before Christmas the teenagers and members of the committee delivered over 100 goodie bags to families and children within the town with groceries,

gifts and festive treats.

There’s still time to get involved if you are a Pennyburn resident or shopkeeper and want to sign up to take part in the Window Wanderland contact the PRYDE team at https://www.windowwanderland.com/event/pennyburn-2021/ or on Facebook.
